The Go Ahead Group acquired the
operations of Metrobus on 3rd
September 1999.
Following the decision
by Arriva to discontinue its operations in Crawley and most of Surrey, Metrobus
purchased Arriva's
premises in Crawley
to develop a commercial bus
network in the town. This led to
Metrobus moving its
headquarters to Crawley. In addition, Metrobus
secured the
tender to operate local
buses in the Redhill and Reigate areas. Metrobus is the operator
of the Fastway guided bus network in
Gatwick and
Crawley which opened in September 2003, and which expanded northwards when Route
100 (Maidenbower-Redhill)
was added to the Fastway network in early 2008.
In December 2007,
Metrobus took over the operations
of First Centrewest in Orpington, including the fleet of 35 buses.
Metrobus currently operates from three garages at Crawley, Croydon and Orpington.
On 3rd October
2009,
Metrobus took over the operations of Arriva's
Horsham Buses in West
Sussex.
