In early 1993, I was
asked to try and locate the many and varied disposals of all the
vehicles that had ever been operated by London Country Bus Services
between its formation as part of the National Bus Company in 1970,
and its split upon deregulation in 1986. Of course after 1986 many
of the then serving vehicles were transferred to one of the new
(four) independent companies, largely dictated by where the vehicle
happened to be at the time.
The difficulty arose in trying to track the disposals of the many
vehicles that were inherited from London Transport in January 1970
when L.C.B.S. was formed. From consulting numerous fleet books,
notes etc, it is apparent that many were scrapped, and there are
numerous disposals that seem never to have been accounted for.
This list was as near 100% complete as I could make it (in 1993),
but obviously requires updating. If anyone has the time, inclination
and patience ever to bring this list up to date, then the lists that
follow will act as a marvellous starting point. Alas, that "anyone"
will probably not be me...!
